About UsAs K-2 teachers are under increased pressures to spend more and more time on reading and math content, it is often at the expense of time spent in science and social studies instruction. Curious KIDSS (Kindling Inquiry and Discovery in Science and Social Studies) aims to increase science and social studies content instruction in grades K-2.
By introducing an interdisciplinary approach building on Growing Up WILD activities, teachers will be able to further integrate science, mathematics, social studies, and literacy (vocabulary, writing, text selection) allowing an increased focus and time allotment for all subject areas. Growing Up WILD provides a unique platform to help teachers use hands-on, interactive lessons that allow students access to the outdoors to experience these integrated lessons in a real life setting. Curious KIDSS activities go beyond Growing Up WILD to create interdisciplinary learning experiences for students and are directly aligned to Ohio's Learning Standards. The connections between science, social studies, mathematics and English Language Arts content are explicitly outlined for each activity series. |
